| A small but partisan and knowledgeable Petworth crowd was royally entertained by two thrilling singles matches. Tom Durack took on the higher ranked Ricardo Smith acquitting himself well but losing out 6/4 6/3. Then Chris Bray giving Bryn Sayers some 18 years and to the dedans´ delight came through narrowly 6/5 6/5 (0/3 down in the second set). Bray´s rock steady defence countered the spectacular shot-making from Sayers, and the home player´s risk-free game saw him through. Bray´s volley was particularly dominant and he hit the grille repeatedly. Against this, Sayers peppered the dedans off the occasional Bray loose railroad. With one match all, the doubles set was critical, but the visitors were the stronger pair winning 8/6. |
